Custard Cream Cake
Ingredients
For the cake:
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup milk
- ½ cup oil (or melted butter)
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- Pinch of salt
For the custard:
- 2 cups milk
- ½ cup sugar
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 egg yolks
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 tbsp butter
For topping:
- Powdered sugar
Instructions
1. Make the custard
In a saucepan:
- Mix milk, sugar, cornstarch, egg yolks, and vanilla.
- Cook on medium heat, stirring constantly until thick.
- Remove from heat, add butter.
- Let cool slightly.
2. Make the cake batter
- Beat eggs and sugar until light.
- Add milk, oil, and vanilla.
- Add flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.
3. Assemble
- Pour half of the cake batter into a greased baking dish.
- Spread custard on top.
- Pour remaining batter over the custard.
4. Bake
- Bake at 180°C / 350°F for 35–40 minutes until golden.
5. Finish
- Let cool completely.
- Dust with powdered sugar.
- Cut into squares and serve.
