For the doughnuts:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2¼ tsp instant yeast (1 packet)
- ¼ cup sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- ¾ cup warm milk
- 1 egg
- 3 tbsp melted butter
- Oil for frying
For the custard filling:
- 2 cups milk
- ½ cup sugar
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 egg yolks
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
For topping:
- Powdered sugar (or granulated sugar)

1️⃣ Make the dough
- In a bowl, mix warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Rest 5–10 minutes.
- Add egg, melted butter, salt, and flour.
- Knead until soft and smooth (8–10 minutes).
- Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
2️⃣ Shape & fry
- Roll dough to 1.5 cm thickness.
- Cut into circles.
- Rest 20 minutes.
- Fry in medium-hot oil until golden (about 1–2 minutes per side).
- Drain on paper towels.
3️⃣ Make the custard
- Heat milk with half the sugar.
- In a bowl, whisk egg yolks, cornstarch, and remaining sugar.
- Slowly pour hot milk into the egg mixture.
- Return to heat, stir until thick.
- Remove from heat, add butter & vanilla.
- Cool completely.
4️⃣ Fill & serve
- Pipe custard into cooled doughnuts.
