🥐 Soft Layered Bread Rolls (Bakery-Style)

Ingredients

Dough

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp instant yeast
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil or melted butter

For Layering

  • ½ cup soft butter (room temperature)

For Brushing

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • Optional: sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or dried herbs

Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the dough

In a large bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let rest for 5 minutes until foamy.
Add the egg, oil, salt, and flour gradually. Mix until a soft dough forms.

2️⃣ Knead & rest

Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

3️⃣ Divide & roll

Punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal balls.
Roll each ball into a thin circle.

4️⃣ Layer with butter

Brush each circle generously with soft butter.
Stack the circles on top of each other, then roll tightly into a log.

5️⃣ Shape the rolls

Cut the log into equal pieces (about 3–4 cm thick).
Place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.

6️⃣ Second rise

7️⃣ Brush & bake

Brush with egg yolk + milk mixture.
