Soft Sandwich Bread Recipe (2 loaves)

Ingredients

  • 4 cups (500 g) all-purpose or bread flour
  • 2¼ tsp (7 g) instant yeast
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup (240 ml) warm milk (about 38–40°C / 100–105°F)
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) warm water
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil or melted butter

Instructions

1. Activate yeast

In a bowl, mix warm milk, warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.

2. Make the dough

Add oil, salt, and flour gradually. Mix until a soft dough forms.

3. Knead

Knead by hand 8–10 minutes (or 5–6 minutes in a mixer) until smooth and elastic.

4. First rise

Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise 1–1½ hours, or until doubled.

5. Shape

Punch down dough, divide into 2 portions, shape into logs, and place into greased loaf pans.

6. Second rise

Cover and let rise 30–45 minutes, until dough rises just above the pan rim.

7. Bake

Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 30–35 minutes, until golden brown.

8. Cool

Remove from pans and cool completely before slicing.


Tips for Extra Soft Bread

  • Brush tops with butter immediately after baking ๐Ÿงˆ
  • Replace half the water with milk for richer bread
  • Store wrapped at room temperature for up to 3 days
